St. Mark's Cross, Blessington, Co. Wicklow

About 23 miles SW of Dublin on the N81 main road at the
Blessington village cemetery. Signposted.
Features :
This is a very tall unpierced ring cross of blue-gray granite with
a central boss as a represenation of the Omphalos (navel of the
earth). There are no carvings or markings on the cross itself but
there is a faint inscription on the foundation base stone which
appears to be in Old Gaelic. Up to the 19th. century it was known
as St. Baoithin's cross.
