Glencolmcille Pillars, Co. Donegal


Location : From Donegal town take the R263 road due W for 27 miles through villages Killybegs, Kilcar and Carrick and make for the folk village at Glencolmcille. Signposted. Admission entry.
Features : Scattered across the valley here over a 1.5 mile radius are various ' station stone pillars' of a pilgrammage nature where St. Colum Cille may have founded a monastery.The crosses here are behind the folk museum up the side of a hill. They are carved with geometric and cross designs.
Date : Approx. 9th. century A. D.
