Killaloe High Cross, Co. Clare


Location : Found inside Killaloe town cathedral around the corner from Abbey street. Take the R 463 road N of Limerick city to Killaloe itself (13.5 miles). Cathedral open daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Signposted.
Features : The cross was taken from Kilfenora and is of an unpierced ring type with crucifixion and shaft interlacings. The bottom photo is a rare runic stone with an inscription both in the Viking language and Ogham, the early Irish equivalent asking for a prayer for Thorgrim.
Date : Cathedral 1185 A.D. Cross date unknown. Runic stone post 12th. century A.D.
